For the Crunch
  • 1 cup Panko Breadcrumbs Regular breadcrumbs can be used.
For Frying

For the Dipping Sauce
  • 1/2 cup Mayonnaise Creamy base.
  • 2 tablespoons Ketchup Adjust to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce Horseradish optional.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Slice sweet onions into bite-sized wedges, keeping layers intact. Soak in buttermilk for 10 minutes.
  2. Mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, and salt in a shallow dish.
  3. Spread panko breadcrumbs in a separate dish for easy access.
  4. Coat each onion wedge in the flour mixture, then dip in buttermilk and roll in panko.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet to 350°F (175°C). Fry coated wedges in batches for 2-3 minutes each side.
  6. Transfer fried onions to paper towels to drain excess oil.
  7. Mix mayonnaise, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, smoked paprika, and garlic powder for dipping sauce.
  8. Serve fried onions warm with dipping sauce.
