- Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add 1 chopped onion and 2 minced garlic cloves. Sauté for about 4-5 minutes until soft.

- Add 8 cups of chopped mushrooms to the skillet. Cook for 8-10 minutes until the mushrooms release their liquid and it evaporates.

- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sautéed mushroom mixture with 8 ounces of cream cheese, 1 cup shredded cheese, 1 cup breadcrumbs, and seasonings. Mix gently until combined.

- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter. Spoon the mixture into the dish and top with more breadcrumbs and cheese if desired.

- Bake for about 30 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

- Remove from oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
