Ingredients
  

For the Crust
  • 1 9-inch Pie Crust Store-bought or homemade
For the Filling
  • 1 lb Breakfast Sausage Italian sausage can be used for spiciness
  • 1 tbsp Unsalted Butter High-quality butter recommended
  • 1 medium Yellow Onion, diced Caramelize well for flavor
  • 1/2 Red Bell Pepper, diced Can swap with other colors
  • 1/2 Green Bell Pepper, diced Optional based on preference
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced Fresh garlic is recommended
  • 1 tsp Dried Sage Can substitute with thyme or basil
For the Custard
  • 4 large Eggs Key binding agent
  • 1 cup Whole Milk Adjust for a lighter version
  • 1/3 cup Heavy Cream Use less for a lighter dish
  • 1/2 tsp Kosher Salt Adjust according to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper Freshly ground preferred
  • 1 cup Sharp Cheddar Cheese, shredded Gruyere can be used as a twist

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a 9-inch pie plate.
  2. In a medium skillet, heat the avocado oil and cook the sausage until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Set aside.
  3. Caramelize the onion in the same skillet for 15-20 minutes until deep golden brown.
  4. Sauté the red and green bell peppers with the cooked onions for 4-5 minutes, then add minced garlic for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Cool the mixture for about 5 minutes.
  6. Whisk together eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, sage, salt, and black pepper in a mixing bowl.
  7. Fold in the cooled sausage, sautéed vegetables, and cheddar cheese until evenly mixed.
  8. Pour the mixture into the pie crust. Bake for 45-55 minutes until golden on top.
  9. Let the quiche rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
